Bathroom Tile Installation Cost Drivers
The main cost drivers are demolition, surface prep, waterproofing, tile material, tile size, pattern complexity, shower niches, benches, edge trim, grout type, and whether the tile is being coordinated with plumbing, glass, vanity, or flooring work.
A bathroom floor tile project is usually simpler than a custom shower because showers need a complete wet-area system behind the tile. That is why two tile estimates can look very different even when the visible tile material is similar.
Good tile estimates should separate:
- Removal of existing tile, wall board, or flooring.
- Surface repair, leveling, and substrate preparation.
- Waterproofing for showers and tub surrounds.
- Tile layout, cuts, niches, benches, trim, grout, and cleanup.
- Coordination with plumbing, shower glass, vanity, or countertop work.
